What is the AutoTill Developer API?

The AutoTill Developer API is a REST API that lets developers connect custom websites and systems to AutoTill. With a scoped key, you can register websites and send or read products, services, pages, policies and orders, which the AutoTill agent then uses to answer visitors accurately.

What permissions can an AutoTill API key have?

AutoTill API keys can have read, ingest and chat permissions, chosen when the key is created. Read allows fetching data, ingest allows creating and updating data, and chat supports custom chat interfaces. Choose the narrowest set you need, and revoke keys you no longer use.

Can an API key access more than one website?

A key can be scoped to the whole account or to a single website. Account keys can reach every website in that workspace. Website-scoped keys are limited to one website and return an error if used to add another. No key can ever reach another workspace.

Does the AutoTill API cost extra?

No. API access is included with AutoTill accounts, and API calls do not use credits. AutoTill charges per agent reply: 100 free credits, then plans from £20/month, with one credit per agent reply and visitor messages free.

Can I use the API with Shopify?

Yes. Because AutoTill does not sync Shopify products automatically, the Developer API is the recommended way for Shopify stores with large or changing catalogues to keep AutoTill current. A developer can send products and price updates from Shopify or another system using a key with ingest permission.

What happens if a key lacks a permission?

The API returns a 403 response with a clear error, such as scope_required, and a message naming the permission the key needs. This makes permission problems quick to diagnose. Create a new key with the right permission rather than widening keys more than needed.

Can the API process payments or refunds?

No. The AutoTill Developer API is a data interface. It does not charge customers, issue refunds or cancel orders, and it cannot bypass server-side price validation. Payments and refunds stay in your own checkout and payment system.

Do I need the API for a WordPress site?
